Haute Sneakers

Have you heard the good news? Sneakers are HOT again! Not just your average gym shoes, sneakers have been given a new life by top designers. Karl Lagerfeld once said, "The sneaker is like jeans for the feet." Just like jeans, they've been reinvented from something functional to something much more stylish and daring.

As usual, don't freak at the price tags for the first few pairs. We'll show you some more affordable options after you absorb the HAUTENESS of this new trend.

Two New Brands You Should Know About

Who doesn't love discovering a well-priced, well-designed line? Here are two new fabulous ones for you! Hardest part? Deciding what to buy. I'm voting for the rumpled blazer from Ayr and the Tamitha backpack in a chic nudey-pink leather from Aimee Kestenberg. Happy Shopping!

AYR

AYR is the brand new women's line launched by menswear company Bonobos in February. The brand is the concept of two friends, Maggie Winter and Jacqueline Cameron, who met while working for J.Crew and Madewell. An acronym for "All Year Round," their goal was to create beautiful, streamlined basics, beginning with the perfect everyday pair of jeans. Their denim is all made in LA and is carefully crafted to be as flattering and comfortable as possible, two traits that don't come together very often! Along with jeans, AYR partners with independent artists every season to create a limited-edition line of graphic tees printed in Brooklyn. While flipping through my Parson's alumni magazine recently, I found the most gorgeous and functional handbag. The Tamitha backpack, pictured below, is the creation of Aimee Kestenberg, an Australian accessories designer and 2010 Parson's grad. After launching her own line of leather handbags two years ago, she has made the Forbes 30 under 30 list and won two American Handbag Designer of the Year awards. The best part about the beautiful, soft leather bags? They are all under $300! You can find them at Nordstrom, Macy's, Lord and Taylor, QVC, and her own website.

It's a DIY Fourth of July!

It's a DIY Fourth of July here at RLS! Kyle, my right-hand woman, found this awesome DIY guide to making your own "designer" sport slides without the designer price tag on the Love Aesthetics blog. Intern Teta then did an awesome job making a pair for herself as well as one for Kyle. Wait, where are mine?!

"Designer" Sports Slides

Sandals inspired by this blog post

What you need:

a pair of slides
leather
scissors
measuring tape or ruler
pencil

hot glue

Instructions:

1. Measure the sandal top and cut it out.

2. Once you have one side done, you can trace it onto the leather but make sure it's mirrored so that you have a right and left side.

3. Test it and make sure they cover the tops of the sandals. Cut off excess leather if needed.

4. Using a hot glue gun, glue the ends of the strip. Try not to glue the top to avoid lumps unless you can do it smoothly.

5. Voila! Now do the next sandal!

6. And you're done! Simple!

Cool Shades for Summer 2014

I LOVE sunglasses to the point where I can't function without them. My husband makes fun of me for wearing them even on cloudy days. "But the glare, the glare!" I will say. Although my obsession is born from necessity (my eyes have always been super sensitive to light), sunglasses have become a fun and ever present fashion accessory. I don't tend to spend a lot of money on my sunglasses because I lose them like there is no tomorrow. Therefore, I was super excited to discover a high quality line of eco-friendly sunglasses with 100% UVA/UVB protection. See below for pictures of me and Kyle in our new ICU EYEWEAR.
