Accessories to Get Excited About

It all started at the Washingtonian Magazine Style Setters event. First, I noticed that a lot of girls had on super fabulous statement necklaces, the most fabulous of which was the one on Megan Pollard. I was a bit intimidated to approach her about her fab necklace, but I needn't have been. Not only was she super sweet and flattered that I loved her necklace so much, but I discovered that she is a mother of two and a partner in Events In The City, a special events planning and design firm in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (see picture below). Very impressive!

Other fab accessories on the Style Setters of Washington? Interesting clutches (I should have gotten a picture of the one that said I Love Lebanon!) and vintage-look earrings also made a significant appearance. It was a little early for fur stoles and Saint Laurent Paris inspired floppy hats, but I'm sure these other faves of mine will make an appearance as the season wears on!

Here are some of my favorite (and pretty reasonably priced, I might say!) accessories for Fall 2013.

Statement Necklaces

I borrowed a pair of vintage earrings from a friend for a wedding over Labor Day. I could not believe how many compliments I got on them! Me, I never have luck finding good "real" vintage earrings. After a crazy search for my wedding, I gave up when I found the perfect pair of "vintage-look" earrings at J. Crew. Now that is my first stop for this sort of thing!

I am so hankering for a new, fun clutch! I think it will have to be Kate Spade, based on how many of her clutches I have pinned lately!

I'm obsessed with super cool head bands after finding a spectacular green feathered one for the aforementioned wedding. It really dresses up basic maternity black! Now why didn't I wear that to the Style Setters event? This is what happens when you try to get dressed in 10 minutes while feeding the baby dinner...

Headbands and Hair Accessories

I purchased a faux fur collar a few season ago and have worn it to death. Over a coat, a cardigan, a sweater, a dress...The fur collar doubles the look of everything you own. I MUST have the pink ASOS one below as my pastel accessory this season!

And finally, the floppy hat. This accessory will make you feel like a cool Parisian, I promise!

The Perfect Fall Skirt

A lot of women complain about having to wear maternity clothes and do all they can do avoid them while pregnant. As someone who believes in dressing correctly for your current body type, I believe in maternity wear. But once in a while I see something I love so much I get upset I have to sit out the season. This Calvin Klein skirt is THE PIECE I really want, but can't have, this fall.

Why is it the perfect skirt for Fall 2013? It covers multiple trends including Graphic Black and White, Punk, Leather and Chic Minimalism. It is also vegan, affordable, and goes from day to evening. I hope you like it as much as I do.

TO WORK
Top with a graphic black and white blazer to tone down the "leather-ness" of the skirt for work. Add a flattering white shirt, then choose your accessories. Will you add a feminine touch with a bow bag and matching tonal pump? Or will you keep it chic with a black and white tote and a pop of fuchsia in the shoe? Whatever you do, have fun!

Looking to rock your skirt for evening? Add a teddy coat (Big Trend Alert!), a pop of universally flattering color with an affordable tee, a chic box clutch, and a shoe that makes your legs go on for miles.
